How to Deal with Hair Loss

Are you noticing more hair than usual on your pillow or shower drain? Is your scalp beginning to peak through your hair? Does your part look wider than normal? Unfortunately, you may be suffering from hair loss.

Thinning hair can be detrimental to one’s self-esteem, but it doesn’t have to be the end of the world. Keeping reading to learn how to deal with hair loss, build your confidence, and find others with the same issue.

Step One: Find the Cause

Androgenic hair loss, also known as pattern hair loss, is the most common type of hair loss for men. However, women can also suffer from androgenic hair loss. Those with androgenic hair loss have hair follicles that are more sensitive to DHT, a male hormone found both in men and women. DHT shrinks the sensitive hair follicles, causing the hair strand to thin and eventually fall out. Typically, only the hair follicles on the top of the head are affected, which is why men and women with androgenic hair loss will retain their body hair.

While androgenic hair loss is by far the most common type of hair thinning, there are many other root causes of the issue. Stress, hormones, medication, diet, and hair styling techniques can also contribute to hair thinning.

If you have hair loss, visit your physician as soon as possible. Your doctor will help you to pinpoint the cause of your hair loss and assess your treatment options. For some, reversing hair loss is as easy as taking a dietary supplement. For others, there is no cure, but there are many ways to disguise hair loss which we will explore below.

Step Two: Learn Your Treatment Options

If you have androgenic hair loss, it’s easier to retain your hair than to try to regrow hair already lost. This is why it’s important to diagnose and begin treatment early in the hair thinning process. Several options exist for treating androgenic hair loss, including:

  • Minoxidil – an FDA-approved topical treatment
  • Finasteride – an FDA-approved pill
  • Hair Transplant – Several types of surgeries can utilize existing hair to restore areas where hair has been lost

Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that any of these treatments will work to treat your hair loss.

Other types of hair loss have different treatments. Speak to your physician to find out which treatment is right for you.

Step Three: Find Support

Remember: there is no need to treat androgenic hair loss. Many people with the condition choose to forgo treatment entirely. Instead, they embrace their new look or employ styling techniques to create the look of fuller hair.

I have a hard time covering my bald spot in the front, I have all the Toppix items but when I try using that bulb type thing, it blows the Toppix away. I don’t have that much in the front for it to cling to.
