Eyebrow Styles in 2020 for You

/

Which eyebrow styles fit you best? If you’ve stuck with the same brow grooming routine since high school – or you’ve never groomed your eyebrows in your life – it may be time to update your eyebrow style. Having full, healthy-looking brows with the perfect eyebrow shape can make a surprisingly big difference in your personal appearance. In fact, fuller, perfectly groomed eyebrows can actually make you look younger! Keep reading to learn how to get perfect eyebrows and instantly transform your appearance.

What’s Trending in Eyebrow Styles

Just as makeup trends come and go, we’ve also seen some big changes in trending eyebrow styles over the past century.

For example, between the 1920s and 1940s, heavily tweezed eyebrows were in, thanks to the influence of early movie stars. Beginning in the 1950s, curvacious, heavily styled brows became popular. The 1970s and 1980s saw the rise of full bushy brows, with many women brushing their brows to create the appearance of more fullness. Pencil-thin eyebrows made a comeback in the ‘90s and early 2000s (if your eyebrows have never recovered from this era, keep reading for a solution to your sparse eyebrow woes!). Then, the 2010s saw a return to worshipping perfectly thick, full brows. Except that this time around, eyebrows were thick but carefully groomed and enhanced with the help of eyebrow pencils and defining concealers.

This year, the trendiest eyebrow styles in 2020 are definitely still bold but more natural-looking. Women are seeking products and grooming treatments like microblading, that give a softer final look, instead of the dramatic look of pencils, powders and gels. But if you aren’t blessed with naturally full brows, you can still stay on-trend without breaking the bank.

The Secret to Bold Eyebrow Styles

The perfect eyebrow shape is within reach for everyone, even if your brows are naturally sparse. The secret is to use a brow thickener like Toppik Brow Building Fibers. Forget pencils and powders. Eyebrow fibers are the best way to create full, natural-looking perfect brows that last.

So what are brow fibers? Toppik Brow Building Fibers are made from colored keratin protein, the same type of protein that is found in your hair. These fibers have a natural static charge that binds them to your brow hairs. As a result, thin brows instantly look thicker and naturally full, without looking over-groomed.

Follow this color guide to help choose your shade of Toppik Brow Building Fibers:

  • Light Brown for grey and blonde hair
  • Medium Brown for brown hair
  • Dark Brown for dark brown or black hair

If you’re going after a softer look, choose a shade lighter than your natural brow color. For bolder brows, go with one shade darker than your hair color.

How to Get Perfect Eyebrows: A Step-by-Step Guide

Ready to get perfect eyebrows? See eight eyebrow grooming tips you need to know:

1. Hands Off!

The first step in styling perfect brows is to let them grow! Allow brows to grow for six to eight weeks so you can see their natural shape and learn exactly what you’re working with.

2. Choose the Perfect Eyebrows for Your Face Shape

Eye size and eye shape play a role in the brow style that works best for you. But face shape is one of the most important factors in determining the perfect brow arches and angles. Here are the most flattering eyebrow shapes for the most common face shapes:

The Best Eyebrow Shape for Round Faces

If your face is round, you’ll want to go for an eyebrow style that is very sharp and angular. Higher arches with defined, pointed tips on the tail-end look best with a round face shape. A good tip is to use trimming scissors when shaping brows on a round face to get the clean and precise finish. This will help add angles to your face.

The Best Eyebrows for Heart-Shaped Faces

One of the trickier shapes to work with, heart-shaped faces look best with eyebrow styles that are simple and more straight across. Heart-shaped faces already have a strong emphasis on the forehead and eye area so a nice complement to this are brows that are low-set rather than extremely arched.

The Best Eyebrows for Oval Faces

An oval face is one of the easiest and most dynamic face shapes to have when it comes to brows. Almost any eyebrow style will look great on oval faces, from high angular arches to sharp defined lines that stretch outwards to your temples. As long as the brow is well-balanced it will work well with this proportioned face shape.

The Best Eyebrows for Square Faces

Very round brows work well with a square face shape because the face already has strong defined lines. The square jaw already accents the angularity of this face shape so you will want to stay away from eyebrow styles that are sharply arched. Rounded brow shapes that are filled in and darkened will be a statement look for a square face shape.

3. Measure

While choosing an eyebrow style for your face shape is important, perfect brows are not “one size fits all.” That’s why we suggest measuring your brows, and marking each measurement with an eyeliner pencil, to make sure that your brows are the right size as well as the right shape for your face shape.

To find the inner corner of your brow, hold an eye pencil vertically at the center of each nostril and mark where the pencil crosses your brow on the same side, then switch and mark the measurement on the other side. Next, pivot your pencil to the outside of each iris to find your arch. Then, turn the pencil to the outer corner of your eye to find where your brows should end.

4. Trim

It may sound counterintuitive, but trimming your brows actually makes them look fuller. To trim brows, first use a spoolie brush to brush the brow hair up. Using nail scissors, trim any individual hairs that are extra-long.

5. Pluck

Forget waxing or threading. If you want natural-looking brows, plucking is your best bet to shape eyebrows. But remember the number-one rule of plucking: less is more.

Always use natural light and a regular (non-magnifying) mirror when plucking your brows. Pluck any stray hairs between, underneath, and outside the brows.

Hint: if tweezing is too painful, heat can help open up the follicles for easier plucking. Apply a warm washcloth to the area for one minute or take a hot shower before plucking.

6. Cool Off

Even the most seasoned pluckers experience some irritation after tweezing. Reduce pain and irritation by applying ice to your brows for a few minutes after tweezing. You can also reduce redness by applying a small amount of aloe vera to the affected area.

7. Wax On

Toppik Brow Building Fibers uses a smoothing wax to help you achieve your perfect eyebrow shape. Swirl the angled side of the Toppik Dual-End Brush into the Shaping Wax in your Toppik Brow Building Fibers Set. Then, lightly apply the Shaping Wax to eyebrows to smooth and define the shape of your natural brows.

8. Apply Fibers

After applying the brow wax, dip the rounded side of the Dual-End Brush into the container of Toppik Brow Building Fibers. Gently dab a small amount of brow fibers onto eyebrows to fill in patchy areas, and create definition and instant fullness.
